There is nothing better then waking up on a Saturday morning with the sun shining into your bedroom. It makes the whole getting out of bed with two little kiddos so much easier. We decided since we had a nice day ahead of us we'd take full advantage and head out of town to do some hiking, but not before a little breakfast.
We started out the morning with some Sunny Orange Waffles drenched in Sunny Strawberry Syrup(and yes, Sunny is actually part of the name). They were delicious! Just ask Miss Lila who managed to to eat 2 of them! She doesn't mess around when it comes to food.
Soon after breakfast we packed a lunch, headed further north, and spent the day at Split Rock.
Max was super excited because this meant a day of throwing rocks into the lake, a favorite pastime of his.
However we decided to do a little hiking first. It was a little rough as this was our first big hiking adventure of the season. Josh started off with Lila in the piggyback carrier, I myself had a pack strapped to me, and Max had to walk this one all by himself. After a lot of uphill walking, we finally made it to the big rock up top. As soon as we sat down Max said "okay wets go back down to the beach and fro rocks!" Are you kidding me? I was about ready to have a heart attack! We weren't going anywhere until I had a chance to catch my breath.
Once we had recovered from the walk up and had a snack we were ready to make the trip back down. Overall it was a fun day and the kids did great. We had a lesson in pine trees or "pineapple trees" as Max would say. Occasionally we'd hear "hey wook a pineapple tree!" Instead of correcting Max I'm immediately thinking how awesome would it be if pineapple trees grew in Duluth! Josh also attempted to teach Max about directions. At one point I hear Josh say "see Max (as he points) this way his home and that way is Canada." Max " yeah, I jis wanna fro rocks." So that went over well. We couldn't help but laugh as Josh said "and sometimes you just want to throw rocks." (Pics of our day will be posted at a later date)
